I go to be with my friends who sometimes happen to be my boss or co-workers. But mainly because of the cheaper drinks!!!
I go because I want a cocktail, my boss doesn't drink so he doesn't go plus we are already friends.
I pretty much go for the booze... but my boss and co-workers are all pretty cool, so it's always a good time.
I'm kind of in a strange position where I work remotely, and all the people in my department are married with kids. They don't go to happy hours, but even just going to lunch with them for birthdays can be kind of awkward for me.
When I had a job that involved working with lots of people with similar lifestyles, we went out to happy hour at least once a week. I still go out with some of them. Our bosses rarely went with us, though.
i keep my personal life personal and my work life professional.
In my dept, everyone is either married with kids or grandkids, but I do hang out with the people who are my age from other departments in my company at this local pub. It is almost a weekly thing and they are great company because they have the same sense of humor as me and can still show up to work at 8am the next day
i'm with CYL. i don't hang out with people from work, i like to keep it separate.
Oh how I miss the right-after-work happy hour scene. There's really no suitable place for something like that around where I live now or I'm sure I'd be organizing one!
at my old job they would have them all the time, and i would go to a few of them when i first started - but for me, i don't like to mix drinking and work - even if it's an out of the office situation cause things happen and people talk. if i had a dollar for every time i heard a story about someone hooking up with someone else as a result of a happy hour - then i would be rich.
I have also learned to compartmentalize my life: work stays at work, home stays at home. If things get rocky on the job, it's very challenging for work-based friendships.
My boss never goes to happy hour since she always has to rush home to take care of her 3 yr old daughter.
i dont go much, but when i do, i go cuz if i say no, my boss tells me i suck
My co-workers try to organize happy-hours once a month, because teachers need to let off some steam or else we'd all go postal.
