The business forecast for Linens 'n Things looks like it could go from light showers to full-on torrential rain in the near future. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May, the store's numbers have continually headed downhill to the point that some are speculating the chain will be forced to liquidate.
Linens 'n Things cut their advertising costs to the point of being almost non-existent and stocked merchandise has been inconsistent. Vendors are concerned the $100 million letter of credit the company has been using to keep items on its shelves won't be enough for the back-to-school rush. If sales numbers continue to disappoint and can't keep the company afloat, we may be seeing going out of business signs before too long.

I haven't shopped there in forever. I just go to Target or Bed Bath and Beyond.
Is Bed Bath and Beyond the same store? They are set up the exact same way and carry the same products.
I went there about two months ago and was looking for a specific k-cup coffee maker. They told me they didn't have it and because they filed for bankruptcy, their suppliers were hesitant to send them more stock, so they didn't even know when they were getting more in. The employees remark makes me think that it will be even more difficult for them to survive if they can't supply the product people are looking for.
Linens & Things is far too expensive. I also shop at Target for household items and linens.
this really is a sign of the times, and showing that major players like Target and Wal-Mart are effecting business. i know that personally i go to linen's n things or bed bath and beyond a bit more than target, but that has to do with proximity to my house and well - habit.
The two L&T stores closest to me are closing. There have been TV ads that everything is 40% off. Still not worth the 1.5 hour drive for me when their prices are too high to begin with.
I was really hoping to catch a good sale with them going out of business they have refused here to go beyond taking 30% off. WTF, they have people everyday with signs saving 25-30% off. I went in and the prices are still high.
Savvy, can you post more things that are happening that are good for the economy or good in the economy? All these posts about bankruptcies and banks going belly up and people cutting back have me depressed. That combined with our own financial hardship with the up to 40% overnight inflation everywhere have me so down I almost want to stop reading savvy!! I love the posts on HOW to save money. Maybe some more posts on how people are finding ways to fund expenditures they love or ways they are able to still be making it today with what we are all dealing with or even ways people are helping others make it who are hurting financially more than they are. It would be nice to have an overdose of uplifting posts to balance out reality around us!
The one in our mall, is terrible, and good lord the space it takes up!
I like both Linens 'n Things and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
Maybe that's why I've been getting 20% off coupons from them every single week...
I just went to the one near me and everything was stocked just fine. It is one of the newer stores. I don't go there often, but I had to this time because it was where a couple is registred for their wedding. BB&B is just more convient for me, or Target.
Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond were better stores, its no surprise to me this one went out of business.
Linens and things will let you use bed bath and beyond coupons.. just thought you guys would like to know that!
Don't shop there. I shop @ Target. It's cheaper and has more stuff then L&T
The L&T store near us started going out of business around Father's Day. I bought a few of things in the past couple of weeks but the problem is with a store going out of business there's a "No returns" policy. So be careful to buy only things you know will work for you, like candles, baskets, towels, etc.
LNT WAS A GOOD COMPANY WE USED TO SALE A LOT OF ITMS, WE HAD A LOT OF OVER TIME BUT IS TRUE THE PRICES OF OUR MERCHANDISE WERE SO EXPENSIVE PLUS THE BAD MANEGEMENT OF THE COMPANY AND THE ECONOMIC CRISIS ARE CAUSES OF THE FINANCIAL PROBLEMS. I HOPE SO THAT THE HISTORY OF LNT CAN HELP TO OTHER COMPANIES THAT DONT BE SO AMBITIUS BECAUSE THESE ARE THE CONSECUENCIES GOD BLESS LNT.
