Much to nobody's surprise, the rebate checks issued as part of this year's economic stimulus package haven't done enough to boost our economy thus far. In fact, economists are wondering if another round would prevent our economy from falling apart entirely. Strong words? Yep, but there are too many people losing their homes and suffering from job losses to ignore the big pickle that is our economy.
Democratic leaders have initiated the idea of a second stimulus package that would include spending for roads, bridges, schools, and other public facilities. The possibility is being discussed, and while President Bush admits that growth had been “slower than we would have liked,” he also wants to let the first package "run its course" and reassures that he "is an optimist."
Expect more debates surrounding the issue throughout the Summer and then some. If another plan including additional rebate checks does come into play, let's hope they hold off from releasing inaccurate schedules and from sending expensive letters regarding the issue.

Decleor
I have NO idea why our president would've thought that the stimulus checks would have a huge impact on the economy. People are losing mortgages and are struggling just to pay basic bills. I don't know too many people who went and brought flat-screen TVs and cars.
1A second wave. ohh my. I agree with valova82 - no one I knew actually used their check to stimulate anything but their debt and/or bills. I guess that is stimulating the all over debt.
2i agree- they totally didn't serve the purpose of stimulating the economy. but that said- i'd take another couple hundred bucks to pay off my CC
3Wow.
4never got mine
5My check paid my rent.
6Got my car repaired with mine
7well i hope they wait til next tax season to do it because this year i didnt get one because my dad decided it was so important to declare me as a dependent when i didnt need to be. got him a bunch of money and made me owe more AND get no stimulus check. I made him fork some over.
8mine's sitting in my checking account still
9Like most of you my check paid bills, the only actual lux I got out of it was an AC which I desperately needed in the house. Either way...if they want to send me more money I am not gonna complain!
10I bought Louboutins with mine... is that technically stimulating the french economy?
11Like everyone else, I'm not going to complain if the govt wants to send more free money my way. But, I can't help but wonder, why do they think that this can even come close to helping turn things around? These "stimulus" checks are only putting band-aids on wounds that need serious stitches.
12i spent mine in mexico actually- so that didn't really help the US. oops!
13I FINALLY got mine and deposited it yesterday. My mom and my boyfriend never got one. Meh!
14Got ours this week. Two weeks after a huge emergency vet bill and just two days before my car broke down. Yep, not stimulating the economy with my check either.
15Didnt stimulate the economy with mine either, it went to my credit card. But in the story it says they would use it for roads, education, etc...doesn't that mean that we wouldn't get one? Wouldn't the state/city/county get one?
16only received $300 on mine and I am taking care of a parent with cancer who can't get insuranc to cover medical bills. I used mine to buy food and pay for bus fare to get my booty to work. Things have not been the same since 9/11 and it just seems to be getting worse and more expensive. My only hope is we aren't headed for another depression.
17I could deal with getting another one...it would go towards our winter trip to New York so its supporting the US so i wouldnt feel as bad as my last $600 which just went towards buying a new couch!
18Perhaps they should consider giving out $6000 checks next time????
19Mine and my husband's rebate check was for, no lie, $1.56.
We figure that if that is all we get back, the government needs it more than we do. We haven't cashed the check. We intend to frame it once we move to Canada next year.
20It would need to come in much larger amounts to help.
21Why am I not surprised that this didn't work
22Never got mine either
23I am not surprised at all. I "stimulated the economy" by getting a new ipod and my house mate bought a Wii. I guess we are among the few who didn't spent it on reducing our debt even though we probably should have. While I understood the purpose of the checks, I didn't think the transformation of the economy would need to be so fast. If we get a second round, though, I will pay down my debt.
24i think that the expectations were a bit out of reach that the $600 would go to retail or the economy. we are all in bad shape - even if we're not in the dire conditions of a lot of people. for myself - i'm managing my mortgage, but that doesn't mean that i don't have other debts that i'd like to pay off.
25There are remnants of my check still sitting in my savings account; only a few hundrad dollars worth. The rest was used on bills and essential needs [groceries & gas]. I'm not gonna complain about getting free money; I'm all for it actually!
Especially since this past week the reality of how high the gas prices are hit me & my bank account.. :T Plus, I actually had to bargain shop at the grocery store. I've never done that!
lol Anyways, I agree. The government's going to need to do more than send out miniscule amounts of $$ to help stimulate our downward spiraling economy.
26mine and my husband's check went straight to the IRS to pay for my husbands (self employed) 'estimated tax'. bah.
27Anyone else hear that 55% percent of the stimulus checks went straight to child support? What does that say about our society?
28If the rebate checks was such a waste of time and money why did you not send your back instead of using it HELP out with some the bills you have and instead of using it for gas yes I will admit the amounts could have been more and maybe a difference would have been seen but to those that say i didn't spend on myself or all that postage that was wasted you should have sent it back and told them to keep it, i'm pretty sure it would have made up for the wasted postage. you were not complaining when you got it and paid that bill and you damn sure were not complaining when you had gas for a week or two or whatever amount of time it was.
29and my comment was in response to those who were Complaining......like i said if it was a bigger of course it could help the enconomy i guess bush did no want to really help the economy and believe me bush knew very well people were going to use that check to pay bills and other stuff and if they do approve a second check wouldnt it go to the state or city for the damn road and other stuff it said in the article...we will still SOL
30Bush did it to make himself look better. Just like the one he gave us when he first got in office.
He doesn't give a sh*t about the economy at this point... he's out. He's making gestures at this point... like the useless environmental bill he just signed. It's all smoke and mirrors to take the focus off what an EFF UP his entire term has been!
