It's one form of complicated office politics, and author Louellen Essex advises to consider your boss's rationale: "Is he or she supporting high performers they're grooming for advancement? If so, step up your performance and get yourself in that inner circle. On the other hand, if the boss is playing favorites due to friendships with employees, stay clear."

1I'm pretty sure deep down inside there's her favorites but she at least tries to be quite equal with everybody.
2not currently but at my old office, which was filled with mainly twenty-somthing girls, my boss truly did pick favorites (thankfully i was one of them) but it really affected the "fun" aspects of the job for the others, ie: if she liked you, you got to go out to breakfast mid-morning with the managers, but if not, you were told to stay back...if she liked you, you were allowed to drink booze at work functions, but if she didn't, you were given dirty looks and a talking-to afterward etc.
3yes there is, its pretty obvious and annoying.
4My boss definitely plays favorites socially. He'll stop and chat with some employees every day and not even say hello to others. But he's good about not being that way professionally.
5Mine does and I am the favorite but I do a good job and know the industry.
6My bosses havent really played favorite but I have been pointed out as the favorite. What has saved me from being harassed is the fact that I have had about 5 different bosses who have all treated me the same which let people know that it is my work and attitude that they ALL like. On the other side our head boss plays crazy favorites and likes to pick on me but not on the young cute asian workers. (he is so attracted to them and lets them get away with EVERYTHING. He also turns into a 14 year old boy and blushes alot around them)
7Absolutely. But he picks his favorites depending on how tight or short our outfit is that day *rollseyes*
