It's a fact that Starbucks will close 600 stores and the whole process will continue into 2009. It's also a fact that the US is saturated with the coffee shops. This map, however, is the result of tips from Starbucks employees and some eavesdropping reporters.
There are nowhere near several hundred locations listed, but you can check out the specific stores that are supposedly closing. This map is far from complete as it shows only one CA location and zero in Arizona — two states where Starbucks overestimated the buying power of residents facing foreclosure. If you know of a store that's closing the Seattle Times wants you to let them know.

Yikes, I hope the two I frequent are staying open!
1Near my parents' house there are two in the same small(ish) shopping center -- one on it's own, and one not 50 yards away inside of the Safeway! It's a little much..
I think the one in Waterville, ME is on the map. I wouldn't be surprised at all. It's always empty.
2UGH! The one I love going to (closest to my house and AWESOME staff!) is closing.
3Yay!
I love all of my mom and pop coffee shops in this town and I bet they are just jumping with joy!
4Starbucks inside grocery and bookstores aren't actually Starbucks locations. They're owned by the store they're in, and licensed to sell Starbucks products. I imagine those will probably stay open.
5Which is why the Starbucks at Barnes & Noble always has such dag nasty coffee. The employees aren't trained by Starbucks.
6Oh no if my Starbucks closes I'll just die...or go to Caribou Coffee.
7I've never found Starbucks coffee all that good. I think a lot of the smaller coffee shops brew much better coffee. In my opinion, Starbucks is much better at branding than it is at brewing coffee.
8No! Now I'm going to have to walk across the street for my frapp! LOL.
9The one closest to my apartment is closing, but that's not surprising considering the competition from at least three great, local coffee shops within a mile from that location.
