My engagement ring is insured. My husband designed it and took it to the jeweler to actually make it, so it's extra special. But this reminds me that I do have another ring that my uncle gave me after my aunt passed away that I should probably insure.

I need to insure my engagement ring and a pair of gold & emerald earrings my mom gave me that were hers. I have a lot of gold jewelry that i'm sure add up to more than 1K all together, I'd have to take those in and get them appraised.

I'd insure it if I had anything worth insuring, but I don't think it's necessary to insure a bunch of $4.99 Wet Seal hoop earrings

RosaDilia, I should clarify what my agent told me -- with allstate at least, you only need to separately insure each individual piece that is worth $1000+, so even though I have a bunch of nice pearls and some gold pieces, the only thing I had to insure separately was my engagement ring.

No. Bottom line, my jewelry (including my wedding set) is a luxury item. In the undesirable event that they're lost, stolen, or damaged, I can still live a happy life without them. But truthfully, though, we can afford to replace them.

Incidently, many of my pieces are from high-end designers.

You should always insure high ticket items separately, just in case. Some homeowner's insurance will only cover if the loss if it happens in the home.

i just got engaged and my fiance and i are getting it insured - added onto our renters insurance policy for right now actually - just in case.

I think it's important to insure your jewelry. A lot of times renters or homeowners insurance will cover a portion of it. My renters insurance (with State Farm) does. It's funny how the younger generation (like say under 35) doesn't value jewelry the same way the older generations do. Jewelry was an investment. Now Wal-Mart is the #1 seller of jewelry in the country. How sad.

Yup- my engagement ring is insured. Boy was I happy about that when a side stone fell out and was lost two days prior to the wedding and I was nearly in tears calling my agent.

He was able to get me an emergency about at a jeweler (out of my home state!) the next morning to fix everything, no charge.

wedding ring is insured and its pennies a year which is worth it to me to insure plus who cares if it is a luxury item so is my car and its insured
