I used to *never* take it, but I've been trying to change that in the last few weeks, since I'm trying to track my expenses.

I take my receipt if I used a debit/credit card. If I paid cash, I don't care to keep it.

I try to keep my receipt but the real kicker is what i fail to do with it. My boyfriend on the other hand keeps all his receipts wheteher from a store or atm and logs it in his register without fail. Puts me to shame everytime!

I always take the receipt and put it into my wallet so i remember to add it to my check register.

I take my receipts because I track my daily spenditures so that I can zero in on my problem spending.

I make a point of taking them at restaurants when I pay with cc because someone told me that there was an incident where a server changed the tip on the second receipt. Otherwise, I am hit or miss.

It's so much harder than I imagined. I'm trying to merge the "real world" with the world the professors to me.

So many deadlines, do I want to study more for this final or would I rather take off of work? but will I pay my rent ontime? With these circumstances, should I worry about rent on time? Should I splurge by spending $8.00 to study with a group at a coffee house or should I stay at home and study alone for free?

Being a poor student SUCKS. Mooch off the family until you've graduated with every masters you could ever dream of having!

I ALWAYS take my receipts. I write everything down in the register and balance it every month. This has helped me numerous times regarding outstanding checks and unknown purchases (when my husband doesn't hand me the receipt).

Awhile back, we ordered Pizza Hut and when the delivery guy showed up, all he had was the order ticket, not the card receipt. He said his manager didn't do that (regarding giving the cc receipt). I entered a tip amount and signed the order slip and IMMEDIATELY went to my register and wrote in the amount. When I was balancing, I noticed the charge was $5 over what I had written down. I made a complaint for the fraudulent charged and not only was the driver fired, but I was reimbursed the ENTIRE charge.

I should add, though, don't carry your checkbooks with you if you're not using them. I had two of them in my purse (along with the registers) and my purse was stolen from my house last week, along with my wallet. The registers aren't any good now! But at least I was more aware of what I had spent where and when so that I was not responsible for the $100 in gas the punk spent with my card.

i do sometimes, becuase what most people don't always see is that there are sometimes surveys or 1800 numbers that they ask you to call in about your experience, and at times you get things for participating. i have gotten gift cards and things of that nature just from taking my receipt

I always do, but especially for credit/debit purchases. Some machines only print a second copy if asked, but some just automatically print two. I'm super-paranoid about even the last 4 digits of my card being discovered and I just can't trust that the receipt I didn't take that was printed anyhow would be destroyed properly (I've seen most cashiers just throw them away...).

Charlie, you're right about the card number on the receipt. When I pull up to a gas pump, I always throw away the receipt that someone left in the paper slot. Like the guy at my bank said when I told him my checks were stolen, there are so many things people can do with account numbers now (he closed and opened a new account for me right then and there).

I keep all of mine, but then again, most of the time the things I buy can be considered business expenses which I write off at tax time. So, maybe it's un-necessary but someone taught me that you should always keep your receipts just in case of an audit.

i take it if its a significant purchase or a place i don't want to leave it behind. but at starbucks they offer to throw it away and i say yes and places like that.

I take my receipt if I pay with my card, since I pay my bills from that bank account. If I'm paying with cash, I don't worry too much.

Online banking is wonderful for a bad money manager like myself. I keep receipts long enough to check them off online and then toss them.
I try not to take receipts if it helps me be green, as well.

I take my receipt for everything except little things (pinkberry, chapstick, stuff like that). I usually just end up throwing away all my receipts every week or so, though...
