Your Two Cents: Do You Use Grocery Coupons?

In the age of everything costing more, many of us are trying to figure out how to pay for more expensive goods while our salaries stay the same. Using coupons for items you'd normally buy is one way to save on groceries, but it seems rare that I see a shopper give the cashier coupons when checking out. Do you use coupons for groceries?

I don't use coupons. I have tried but the coupons are for products that I don't normally use. I'm not going to switch toilet paper brands to save 50 cents. Here, it seems like grocery stores are always having some type of sale or rewards program thing. So, when I see a product I *do* use on sale, I'll go get it (and usually save more than 50 cents).

I do use coupons. I also print out coupons from a couple of websites and use those as well. A good way to get coupons is to go the websites of brands that you use regularly and sign up and you'll get coupons in the mail.

I try to use coupons. But I've found that if I didn't have coupons I would buy less because I would stick to the essentials anyways, and splurge on only a couple items which keeps my waist small and wallet fat.

I pick up these awesome coupon books from Mambo at Whole Foods...I've used them in combination with sales to get free Clif bars, $1 organic eggs, and a ton more. I also use newspaper coupons in combination with sales to buy a lot of nearly-free food to donate to local shelters and food banks.

If it's a good deal I'll use them. But I have noticed with a lot of coupons you have to buy 2 or 3 of what the item is to save the 50 cents. Not worth it!

I def. use the good ones, esp. the ones that print out at check out. Also, I recently printed some offline--it was amazing! I got a dollar off my soy milk. You can search for products you know you will need or are going to buy.

My friend was recently shopping with me and said she never used a coupon--WTF?! I agree if you have to buy a lot of the item it's not worth it but there are some great coupons out there! She also didn't have an advantage card which saves $.10 per gallon of gas for every $50 spent! My family saves the discounts up and we recently got over $100 of gas for free! It's not time consuming to do these little things and they def. help!

No, because I do most of my grocery shopping online. I save money by getting a delivery pass (which costs less on a per-delivery basis if I order groceries once a week)- reserving six months' worth of deliveries in advance. Plus, my online grocery store has weekly specials and I shop those. I also get discounts on certain items each week as a preferred customer. Although I do get charged for delivery, my online grocer has better selection and comparable or lower prices than my local supermarket, so I think it's worth it. Plus I don't own a car so it's much easier for me to shop this way!

I try to use coupons where I can, but it seems most of the coupons I find are for processed products that I don't generally purchase, so I'm not really getting a deal if I wouldn't normally purchase the product. I do shop with my store rewards programs, I find I can save a significant amount with that and you can find a lot of savings on produce, meats etc.

And I've been able to switch most of my shopping to Trader Joe's - their versions of products tend to be cheaper than in the regular stores (e.g. their version egg beaters are from the same manufacturer as the regular ones, and up to $2 less than in the grocery store).

I use coupons, but like the rest of the responses, they are for foods that I have to buy 3 to get 50 cents off, or for foods/products that I don't usually buy.

I just try to combine coupons with special sales and really stock up my pantry and fridge.

I use them whenever I can especially for the things I buy all of the time. I make an effort to buy things when they are on sale with coupons so I get a better deal.

I use coupons, takes forever to shop with them but I do use them. It helps a lot. The most I've saved at one time has been about $30.

i was raised by a mother who ALWAYS cuts coupons and still does, and it's a shame becuase i often forget to do the same thing, so i don't save the money. every weekend when i got to my mom's house, she tells me about how she's gotten tons of stiff for next to nothing because the item was on sale, and she had a coupon.

    Check out grocerygame.com

So far I like it and have accumulated a few free things through their coupon advice. I HIGHLY suggest you save coupons for 12 weeks (without bothering with the cutting because it will make it disorganized for you) and then join. I've got one more week of my "trial" and but I already decided I'm keeping it.

It's $10 every 8 weeks which equates to $1.25 a week to know how to get free and super cheap stuff. If nothing else, for the time being I'm learning the trade of saving.

Really my answer would be I use coupons when they apply to items I would normally buy. The majority of coupons don't apply to items I would buy in the first place.

I use coupons when I can find them... most coupons are for items that I generally don't use so when I do come across a coupon for something I do use, I use it!

Almost always, as long as it's a product I'll use otherwise what is the point?! However I love seeing the total savings at the bottom of the receipt; I feel proud of myself. I also have savings cards; definitely comes in handy!

I have an Aunt that purchases all the free products from the Walgreen's Rebate Book. Whatever she doesn't or can't use, she donates to a local woman's shelter. I do the same with the free pet food coupons from the Sunday paper, and give the stuff to my local Humane Society.

I said other because I buy a lot of organic and healthy foods, and I can never find coupons for what I buy.
