Two hours in to a five hour flight you're feeling parched and dehydrated. When the flight attendant pushes her cart through the aisle and you ask for a Diet Coke she tells you that it's $2. It may seem like a rip off, but this scene is going to become increasingly familiar, particularly if you fly US Airways.
The carrier has announced a new $2 fee for in-flight refreshments like soft drinks, juice, and bottled water. This leaves passengers with little choice when quenching their thirst; it's either purchase over-priced beverages in the airport or pay $2 for a can of soda on the plane. $2 isn't a big fee by any means, but it's difficult to curb frustration when we've been accustomed to receiving complimentary refreshments for as long as we can remember.

I don't see how this is going to help them solve the problems. All these small fees can be easily avoided. I think that they need to come up with more economical planes for flights rather then nickel and dime the passenger to death.
1Well, that's why I make sure I eat before boarding a flight and buy a bottle of water after I've passed security.
2Usually the drinks and food after security is more expensive than what it would be on the plane. Honestly, the airlines better come up with something because I used to love flying and now it makes me sick to think about flying somewhere.
3I am a flight attendant and even I am surprised by this new charge on flights. I can understand charging for bags since the more weight of bags there are on the plane the more fuel is needed for the plane. I believe that they should just raise ticket prices so that all these additional charges are already included in the price of your fare. Times are hard at work these days and I know that people may be let go and I may have to take a pay cut and that scares me. I work hard and have to pick up extra hours each month just to survive. Please understand that it is just as hard on the airline employees as it is on its passengers..
4I shouldn't be drinking diet soda anyway - but occasionally get tempted on the plane - this may be good for me. And I never fly US Air
5One bizarre thing I recently experienced was last week on a fligh. We were informed that we could either enjoy free soda or pay $2 for a bottle of water! I just wanted a little cup of water.... SAD.
6did you hear that the airlines are trying to charge you per pound basically right before you get you ticket you will pay based on your weight omg how stupid is that!!!
7It's only a matter of time before U.S. Airways, like American and United, will start charging for the first checked-in bag as well. I picked the wrong time to move across the country when most of my family and friends are back West.
8Like citizenkane mentioned, this definitely is annoying. We can't even bring cheap water that we bought in bulk now because of airport security measures. It might even be cheaper to pay $2 for a soda on the plane than however much the airport convenience stores or restaurants charge.
9well i will never fly us airways again after my chicago incident, you know who has stayed reasonable? continental and they were in Fortune's top ten as one of the greenest companies. just a little fun fact for y'all
10I hate having to carry a ton of cash when I'm travelling. I know it seems dumb but that irritates me more than anything!
11re: water, just bring a bottle from home, drink it pre security, and then fill it up at the water fountains post security. cha-ching!
12I really think you should at least get water for free. What if I get dehydrated and faint, are you going to give me water then charge me?
13Ugh, this is irritating. First we can't bring our own water in anymore, then we learn that airline "tap water" sometimes has coliform bacteria in it, and now some airlines are charging (silly prices) for bottled? What a convenient monopoly.
My guess, though, is that the tap water will still be free for those who wish to take their chances. I recall hearing that there are laws in some areas that a business must provide drinking water to any customer who asks for it...if that's the case, I don't see why an airline should be any different.
14honestly.. bring your own freaking drink.. i would rather see costs like this go up (aka costs on optional items) than the over all price of tickets continue to increase.. what are they supposed to do?
oh, and for those who just wanted a cup of water.. the water that's drinkable on airplanes come from bottles, which is why they are charging you for a bottle of water.

16do i at least get to have the whole can of soda if i'm paying $2 for it? raieven, that is a great idea. i will def be bringing an empty bottle next time i fly.
17seriously - this is all getting so out of control with the nonsense fees. to be honest, i can do w/o a drink on the plane - it's just a nice thing when you're paying out your rear end for the flight itself. $2 for a little glass that's not even the whole can of soda is ridiculous.

19phatE-- You can't bring liquids on a plane anymore, remember? That really sux though. There should be some way to bring legal action here... they're kinda acting as a monopoly, I suppose. Since you can't buy your drinks anywhere else since you're on a plane you're essentially a captive audience, especially if its a long flight.
