Whether we received our rebate checks according to schedule or not, it seems their arrival (or anticipated arrival) resulted in a surprising retail resurgence. Economists who estimated retail sales would see a 0.5 percent boost during May were proven wrong when sales actually increased by one percent.
This may indicate the economy isn't as weak as thought, although it's going to take more than a month of increased consumer spending to convince me that we're finding our way out of the woods.

I haven't spent my stimulus check as of yet. Still weighing out the options. However, I did find this site interesting. I plan on blogging my own once I decide how/where/what to spend it on.
1hmmmmmm
2well i didn't get a cheque because I am from Canada...
There are like A LOT of birthdays in May though too...wonder if that could contribute to that spending too?
I also think that people buy things for summer - I know that in FL they last week of May you don't pay tax on hurricane preparedness items, which can definitely make people stock up.
3There was no hurricane tax break this year for Fl...
4Wouldn't you think that people are shopping more because the weather is finally warm and people wanna get out. It's not because of the economy it's just a fluke.
5i havent gotten squat!
