just got a new job as a HR Assistant, very happy about it but the title is just a title. BTW I'm a HR Assistant.

My title can be almost anything, as long as the pay is right!

right now i'm a clerical asst III, so my title doesn't matter to me at all. once i graduate school, though, i'll be an RN, which i'm super excited about & i'm guessing my title will mean a lot to me then.

I'm a teacher, so there's really no other way to say it...

I am currently a sales associate at a retail company, however, I am MAKING my title a serious matter because I want to move up in the company quickly.

I don't even have a set title. Sometimes I'm a Media Buyer, sometimes a Graphic Designer, sometimes an Office Manager, sometimes a Creative Director's Assistant. I wish I got paid for each title!

My job title doesn't mean much to me at this point - it's technically still entry-level in a retail store. However, the amount of work and responsibility I have warrants an additional title. This used to exist until the company I work for did some "rearranging" and eliminated the job title.

It means more to me on my resume for the next position I land. Hehe.

as long as titles are meaningful and reflect your responsibility, then yes! i've been in situations where coworkers' titles were clearly inflated above their responsibility levels, and that can be a little irksome.

Oooh my job states how important the title BETTER BE to us lol. I'm constantly reminded that I'm a Showtender...not a bartender. And if any of us just wants to be a bartender, that the door is right there!!

I am an admin. assistant and although I do like the name...it can be so broad! I do SO much more then other admin. assistants...it can just be a really varied job!

it's sad to say but yes my title does mean something to me. i feel like if i don't have that at least, then i don't have validation for what i've been doing.

It used to bother me but now I don't care and I don't regard too much esteem just based on "job positions" or "titles". I put esteem to a person's morale and dignity rather than their personal achievements

Nope, job titles are baloney to me...what you do speaks for itself. Thank God I work in a small firm with a great boss!

I was an "HR Assistant" at a company, but I did the bulk of the HR work. I was fine with the title until a rude lady said "well, you're just an assistant!" I told my boss and we promptly changed my title to "HR Generalist". Apparently it matters to others a lot more than to me.

I work for a large retail company that just loooooooves its titles. There are associate and assistant and senior everythings, and then everyone's titles change every quarter or so to something else. When they change titles so much it really loses the true meaning. I will say I do like my current title though since I got to skip over the associate and assistant levels and go straight to senior.

Well, I'm probably the youngest one here. I'm a Crew Leader--basically a shift supervisor--at an ice cream place. I guess it's a nice title to have, and it's cool to have the authority when my boss isn't around. I have responsibilities like opening the store in the morning, balancing the register and safe at night, locking up, etc. Not a bad achievement for only being 17 years old.

My title means something to other potential employers, and it looks better on my resume. I was really lucky to graduate college and get a job without "technician" or "level 1" attached to my title, given my lack of experience when I started. In my field it's all about the number of years experience (that's how they base your salary).

I don't really care so much about about having a title. I'm the office manager but sit at the desk in the lobby of the office. But I HATE it when anyone calls me a secretary. Grr!

My title just describes what I do I still have to explain my job to people so instead of saying I am an apparel developer I tell them I am a project manager it seems to make more sense.

That means nothing to me at all. I think it's pointless unless you're CEO or something that much higher.

My title is tied directly to my pay rate, so of course it matters.

Secretary is seriously the worst title ever. I was a legal assistant, and my job was drafting memos and legal research. But when one of our secretaries was fired, the other assistant and I had to take over some of her duties, which I assumed would be limited to filing, photocopying, calendaring, not glamorous, but whatever.

Well, my boss just said this week, "now that you guys are secretaries too, you will also be responsible for my personal banking, fetching cream from the drugstore and oh hey, one of you needs to show up in court to argue this speeding ticket for me." Among a variety of other really stupid tasks.

Apparently, at my job "secretary" literally means b*tch. There is no way he would ever have a male paralegal or legal assistant do this kind of stuff. I guess I get that it's kind of a demotion for us, but seriously I think the term "secretary" is just an antiquated excuse for men to make women their personal slaves. Hey, if he wants a personal assistant, he should hire one. But eh, I'll be quitting soon to start school in the fall!

It matters to me, I did my time as a secretary and as an administrative assistant so don't call me either one, I'm an Assistant Administrative Analyst. (That's actually about as high as I can go on the union salary schedule; after this, it's management.) I spent too long working full time and taking classes at night to get my Bachelor's in Business Administration.
