The California Supreme Court's decision to overrule the ban on gay marriage triggered a spectrum of reactions, and a recent study suggests that more than just same sex couples will benefit from the decision. A study by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law concluded that same-sex couples will add $684 million to California's wedding industry and in three years will boost the state budget by $64 million.
Wedding vendors began to see business increase after the May announcement that CA would recognize same-sex marriage as of June 17. Gay couples have started planning their weddings and have been seeking out vendors to help put together their big days, and companies who have built their businesses around providing nontraditional services have found themselves in high demand. Hopefully more businesses will adapt to all of California's happy couples in the midst of wedding planning.

Interesting, it makes sense. I thought about it boosting the eceonmy in CA but not really for wedding vendors - more on the tourism side.

2Schwarzenegger has been touting the economic benefits of gay marriage in light of our current budget crisis but I wonder how much of an impact it could really have. He's predicting that homosexual couples from all over will flock to CA for marriage ceremonies, but will they really come over in droves if their home states do not recognize gay marriage? To those that live in states that only legally recognize heterosexual marriage, the CA marriage license wouldn't be more than a sentimental memento -- which is all well and good but those couples can already have a commitment ceremony wherever they please and enjoy the same fond memories, with the same (none whatsoever) legal impact.
Hmm...I wonder if anyone has studied the impact on Massachusetts' economy?

4I think it would definitely help out. More people would go to the area for the weddings and they would definitely spend some money. There would be the money from the actual ceremony as well. It couldn't hurt and it's definitely something that should be legal anyway.
