Résumé Tip: Print It Before You Hit Send

During a past job search, a recruiter added her company name as my résumé's header. When viewed in Word the header was hidden, but as a printed page her name was there in bold, leaving me susceptible to making a serious mistake when applying for jobs outside the efforts of my recruiter.

Employers often print out résumés even if it was sent through email, especially if you're scheduled to interview. Before sending your résume print it out to check for big mistakes like the one I described. Make sure your formatting is intact, and take the time to triple check for any grammatical errors that wouldn't have been caught by spellcheck (like mistakenly using their for they're).

Triple check for any grammatical errors, such as using "in tact" instead of "intact"?

Same goes for online applications when copying and pasting ASCII (text-only) copies of resumes. For instance, once you've copied and pasted your text-only resume on one company's online application and submitted, don't go back to it and use it to copy and paste onto another company's online application. It will contain the first company's name and referral codes. I realized I made this mistake before and had to correct the second application.

Check your dictionary, "intact" is correct.

    Below from Dictionary.com
–adjective 1. not altered, broken, or impaired; remaining uninjured, sound, or whole; untouched; unblemished: The vase remained intact despite rough handling.
    2. not changed or diminished; not influenced or swayed: Despite misfortune, his faith is still intact.
