While most of us have been seeing $4 gas for quite some time, the national average hovered just below that figure until this weekend. Having surpassed the much talked about $4 mark, we can now look ahead to additional price hikes as the AP reports more expensive gas in the future.
Adjusting to the high cost of gasoline may not ever happen for some of us, but given the frequent speculation up to now none of us should be too surprised about the news. Oh, except maybe a BusinessWeek writer who published this headline just last April: "$4 Gas? Fat Chance: Despite tight supply and steady demand, it would take a disaster along the lines of Hurricane Katrina to push pump prices that high."

Hitting over $4 by now is no suprise to me. And even though we all know it, I just feel the need to say it anyway this morning **** This is just right out ridiculous. America should have never gotten into the mess at all.
Yesterday I drove to the gas station near my house and it was $4.23 regular this morning it went down to $4.19. Either way, I drive an SUV and it sure hurts when I fill up the tank!!
This made me so sick to see this morning when I drove to work.
It was $4.13 when i drove to work this morning. I love my Jeep but the gas prices are killing me. It used to take $40 to fill up my tank now $40 gets me a half a tank! This is disgusting, something needs to be done about this.
It now takes me about 8 dollars round trip, in gas, to go downtown for the night.
I feel bad for those people who drive. I thank the heavens above daily that I live in a city that I can get anywhere to and from on public transportation.
The prices killed me this morning. $59 supreme for a lil over 13 gallons.
SF prices have been well over $4 for awhile, this just means that we are at about $4.50
Ditto to MindayH - I filled my tank this weekend and it was like $4.39. I nearly passed out.
its holding steady at $3.85 for us right now. We have been staying home a lot!
I feel like gas prices have been a big issue for a while now. I remember when it went over $3, and then $3.50, and that wasn't even that long ago. I think the one good thing about this whole mess is that SUVs are no longer selling very well.
UGH.
Haha, I love that the Bay Area folks share my pain. It's sad that the AVERAGE in San Jose is now $4.41, according to the radio today. It really is frustrating even making the drive to work (20 miles to the office) everyday and it definitely does seem like $4.50 gas is on the horizon.
Holding around $3.89 for me right now and I'm contemplating a 3 hour drive to my parents this weekend. Ouchies.
It went from $4 to $4.15 overnight. We found a place for $4.04 when we were driving by and got gas there and then saw it at $3.99 a little up the road.
The most I've paid is $4.65 in Santa Barbara. It wasn't the cheapest gas around, but it was the first station I found and I was running really low. And that was a few weeks ago!
