they just laid off a bunch of people from our organization at satellite locations. Plus, I'm making less money than even the new people coming in. I think I'm safe at the moment.

I'm involved in tax law and have already noticed an increase in calls from people looking for our help so I'm probably in a secure position. Whether it's going to be enough for me to keep up with skyrocketing costs is another question. But this job is one issue I don't have to feel freaked about.

i feel very secure in my job, and i dont foresee any lay offs in the future (i work in higher education). however, if there were layoffs, i think i would worry about being let go because i've only been there a year.

In my county, after 3 years of service, you're tenured. So, unless I violate my code of ethics, they can't let me go.

I actually just got laid off on tuesday. The creative fields are the hardest hit when the economy is bad. So I would say that "yes I have felt this economic downturn".

I work in city government so the risk of being fired or laid off is usually low. In some departments they've been splitting up duties when someone leaves or retires rather than hiring someone to fill the position. I feel pretty secure, but not 100%.

I am in a job that is not stimulating at all. It is just a paycheck!!! I have been been looking around without much luck.

A lot of people were laid off in my company last week. They made the hint that more layoffs will be coming if the market doesn't pick back up again.... so not feeling too secure, no.

I work in book publishing and am self-employed. Job security is not an issue but how the industry is changing affects me.

I feel very secure in my job. I've been around for a few years, am in a higher level position for my particular job, and we constantly have new people being hired to expand our team (so they'd be the first to go).

The company I work for is enjoying Star status in the business world and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down.

I've never felt secure in my job ... probably because I never felt I did it well enough to warrant a feeling of security. Then again, I'm ready to move on from my job too.

I work in the financial industry so my job security is not as strong as it could be. These days one never knows.

My *current* job security is very low, I'm a temp, so I'd be the first to go in lay offs, but....I snagged myself a new job that I start in two weeks where I'll be a little farther up the food chain if lay offs occur. yay!

I feel secure, but I'm leaving soon for graduate school. I think I picked a good time to be in school, hopefully by the time I get out, things will have picked up.

I just started a job in Jan. I wouldn't say I am fear but I learned a long time ago not to depend on a job being there for me. I never get to lax in a job and I never not have a back up plan (it may not always work but I believe in having at least 6 months on EF even it its saving 40 per pay period as a starter or even 25 and always keep an updated resume). I would also keep my profiles current online at job sites.

Even though I've only been here a few months, I feel very secure. Who else is my boss going to get to do his son's homework and make his espresso?

Very secure. Business is picking up and the only employees are me and the owner. If he let me go, it would be like chopping his right arm off.

As an independent contractor, I have absolutely zero job security, even when the economy is strong. In the tech field, start-ups take downturns all the time, and the contractors are usually the first to go. With the economy the way it is right now, long-term gigs are getting a bit more sparse than before, but overall I'm only slightly less confident about my job prospects than before. My husband has a very solid job (about as recession proof as you can be in our business) and we have money saved up, so if things go dry for awhile, I'll just use the time to start spinning up my own projects.
