According to The Wall Street Journal, President Nicolas Sarkozy has drafted a bill that would end France's 35-hour work week saying, "The 35 hours have delivered a serious blow to our country, we cannot stress this enough. How could we have this stupid idea to believe that it is by working less that we will create more wealth and more jobs?"
Thirty-five hours seems almost like a part time job to many overworked Americans, but this French conversation got me wondering how many hours you spend working during an average week.

At the moment, I'm a student, but I jsut got a job yesterday and I'm starting in July! I'll be working about 20 hours a week, cause it's a part-time job while I finish my studies.
1More than 60 for sure, but I really enjoy my job so I wouldn't classify myself as overworked. 35 hrs does sound part time
2My job is budgeted for a 36 hour work week (3 12hr shifts) but I have been pulling 4, which puts me at 48 hours. But if you factor in getting my photography business up and running, I work 60+.
3Oh god, I was working 70 hour weeks, and I really can't imagine doing that anymore, but I don't like my job....I recently I"ve been working 50 hours.
4My job has a 35 hour work week for its payroll (our hours are 9-5 with an hour for lunch). However, given the nature of a law firm, people who are not part of the administrative staff definitely are used to working overtime. Thank goodness for being salary non-exempt!
5As a teacher, I'm scheduled to work 8 hour days for 190 days. I put in an extra 4-8 hours a week planning, grading and attending after school activities.
635 hours/week. No overtime or weekends.
7I am blessed to have a husband that provides for both of us with great security for the future. In the meantime, studying seems like a good idea since i have no kids right now.
8I work 45 hours a week not taking into account what I bring home. I also started taking a class this Sat for a certification. Anything to make me more marketable.
9I am a student and I don't work right now. My husband makes money and we have a side business on ebay that keeps us going. We have a roommate and he pays what I would make working. I'm looking for a job though cause you can never have too much money.
10I work about 35 hours....weekly....
11Variable compensation. I am definitely in the 50+ range.
12I substitute teach so I work varied hours depending on whether or not I get called!
13I'm a high school teacher so I end up working more at home than in school. Can't wait for summer off
14I'm a housewife but do have this at-home biz which I put 5 hrs to 7 hrs each day for 5 days so that's less than 40. I'm 40 and I already had enough of those "long-hour work week". Yea, I got what I should be paid for but still it's not fulfilling. I'd rather enjoy the things I can enjoy today rather than "enjoy" it when I'm too old to enjoy. That's why weekend was created because it's the end of "work week" and you're supposed to chill and relax.
15I would love to work in France - my boyfriend worked in Paris for 6 months and definitely took advantage of their many holidays. Plus I think they get 6 weeks of holiday, versus the 4 weeks I get here in the UK. Anyways I work 35 hours per week ... I'd have a hard time moving back to the States and working there to be honest. I'd be overworked and barely have any vacation time.
1640 hours per week
I work in local government. We get comp time vs. overtime pay, but we're strongly discouraged from working any overtime.
17my current job is between 35-40 hrs but my last job was 50-60 hrs
18I usually get in at 9:00 and leave at around 6:30ish. But of course, I am paid until 5:00pm.
19I'm a mom and looking for a job that's about 25-30 hours a week. Depends on the salary...
2040 hours a week and no OT.
2140 hours no overtime, I also work 4 tens and have weekends off.
22Well I'm in the office 40 hours a week...I do much less work than that though, teehee.
2346 hours most weeks.
2440 hrs a week and no OT ... darn housing market
25I'm at work usually 9-6 and don't take a lunch, but like gigill I'm obviously not "working" all that time (you can see I'm not "working" right now!)
I would say I have 35-40 hours of productive time per week
26I work about 40 pay...good but god its killing me with school i can't get financial aid because i make to much but it really isn't that much so imma have to atart working less.
2740-50
28My husband earns a really good living; enough to live on comfortably. I work about 20 hours a week out of the house, but I also do a part-time work-at-home freelance thing that I do for another 30 hours a week. The rest of the time I spend cooking and cleaning the house.
