Between the lucrative advertising deals, SATC memorabilia, and scalpers auctioning off sparse premiere tickets, maybe the Sex and the City movie really is the Super Bowl for women! While us Sugar girls are lucky to see the movie two days before its official release, the big premiere is in NYC on May 27 — can we say countdown! MainStreet didn't have to dig far on their Internet search for tickets, and found listings on Craigslist that rival the prices of coveted Super Bowl tickets. Of course there's always the possibility that the tickets are fakes, but the listings online range anywhere from $225-$2,400. Scalping Sex and the City tickets? What would Charlotte think?!

Oh, goodness...so many things I find wrong about this.
First, the Super Bowl is a regular, re-curring, major cultural event in the US, for all genders, and even for non-fans. I can't imagine that the SATC movie is drawing that kind of broad audience.
Second, I'm not in love with the idea that SATC is being viewed as this mega-event for women. I don't like SATC. I've never liked it. The women do not appeal to me.
I guess I'm in the minority on this, but I am eagerly awaiting the end of the SATC madness. I'm probably overly bitter right now, too, because my Entertainment Weekly was 80% SATC fluff. They spent more pages on SATC in that one issue than they did on Harry Potter, ever, and HP was far more broad in viewer spectrum.
1I love the HBO series and was prepared to love the movie. However, instead of getting caught up in the escalation of it all, I now find myself wanting to run the other way. Sometimes "reflexive awe" is just too much. Not again . . .
2I was never into the show much. I only watched it if a roommate made me.
I can see why people are selling these tickets like this. I have a brides maid of mine trying to get out of my rehearsal dinner and wedding because they are on the same weekend. I also had another brides maid ask if we can move the date (after everything was sent out) because Dave Matthews was playing. When women obsess over things, they get crazy about it.
3SkinnyMarie, that is so rude of your bridesmaids. I couldn't imagine prioritizing something trivial over a friend's wedding.
4I'll wait til things chill out a bit before watching this movie.

8Ohh I know. One of them was more just expressing her sadness of missing an event. The other, who was serious won't be spoken to after the ceremony.
9TsuKate, I totally agree. Actually, I'm kind of offended at calling this the Super Bowl for women. I'm female, I love football and hate SATC. I watch the Super Bowl every year, even if the Colts don't make it. (Yay for little Manning this year) I'm tired of all the shows marketed to women focusing on sex and fashion. We have other interests...
10Skinnymarie, I'm so sorry you have to deal with that! I think that getting to go to movie premieres is exciting and all the kids in my college would go because lots of them were held basically in our school's backyard. However, I don't think I would pay a lot of money to go and then there's the plane ticket to New York and the inevitable hotel fares. Sometimes it's nice just to relax and do things low-key.
