Some Americans are feeling the economy crunch harder than others and have resorted to a desperate-times-call-for-desperate-measures mentality. Crime Stoppers, a program that invites tips to stop criminals in exchange for cash rewards, has seen a big jump in the number of tipsters calling with information. Sergeant Johnson has been a Crime Stoppers coordinator for 15 years and summarized the situation when he said, “People just need money." Regarding the rise in tipsters he added, “I’ve never seen an increase like it is now.”
Tipsters calling Crime Stoppers operators across the country have supported their tips with personal explanations like needing money for rent and bills. Several programs have seen more arrests because of the increase in tips, and in some cases people are faced with paying rent or getting the money by tipping off Crime Stoppers to a criminal in their own families.

Yeah, and my friend saw a reward offered for a lost dog this morning and suggested we get some dog food and start looking. Times is hard.
1It sucks that the economy is so bad people turn into snitches. Although I suppose the only criminals Crime Stoppers offers serious rewards for are violent and need to be off the street anyway.
2It's good that people are trying to help, but it is sad that some people's motivations for this do not lie exclusively in actually finding justice.
3There is going to be more crime because times are tough, so now people are making money by turning those people in...interesting
