Glamour's June issue includes more fun money facts than usual, and I'll be sure to share them with you here and there. The life and happiness section features an in-depth look at women's spending habits, while other parts of the magazine feature advice on how to look expensive and updating your wardrobe without leaving your closet. A sign of the times? Sure, but practicing your savvy is timeless. Here's what Glamour calls "four weird things that are very normal."
- Buying lots if one thing is on sale. Spending more when the item you planned to get is deeply discounted has a name: the spillover effect.
- Using up most of your salary. The average young single woman spends all but $628 of her annual income.
- Mystery spending: Young women lose track of $52 a week. Most say it vanishes on a shopping trip or night out.
- Spending more when you're on a diet. A study found that people struggle to resist impulse purchases when they use up self-control elsewhere.

Isn't "weird" spelled wrong in the headline?
1"Using up morst of your salary"...shouldn't it be "using up MOST of your salary"??
Sorry for being a spellchecking nit-picker here!
2That isn't the only typo... most and struggle are misspelled.
3And things is misspelled too. There shouldn't be an apostrophe.
4I take that last comment back.
5But "Buying lots it one thing's on sale" should be "Buying lots if one thing's on sale"
6Ok gals...lol I think these are very true. I always end up buying more than one item if it's on sale which isn't good b/c I end up spending more money.

I'm guilty of buying more than one item if it's on sale too, but I only do it when I consider the item a basic. So if a plain, great-fitting black tee is on sale, it's likely I'll be taking two. I know that I'm going to wear them, so I think about it like buying two jars of peanut butter when it's on sale!
8"The average young single woman spends all but $628 of her annual income." Oh my goodness, that is awful because that is not much of a savings at all! It is interesting to see that the spending situation for so many young women is so extravagant.
9For me I do it with groceries or shoes.
LOL
10i agree that i spend more when i'm "dieting"....it's because the healthier foods are more expensive, and i end up searching for good lunch alternatives around my office that end up costing more...if i ate mcdonalds or pizza slices or bagels every day i'd save tons!
11OMG, this makes me want to buckle down more. 628 wow that is a nice chuck that a savings account can be missing or my E fund. Sighs.
12Hmm... so by saying all of this is 'normal' they are pretty much saying it is ok to continue this habits? No wonder why the current situation of the USA
13I want to know what happens to that missing money - I've noticed that I can't account for $20-30 after a week when I've been shopping and it can't all be snacks.
14G, I don't know that they're saying it's okay - sometimes we need to have our bad habits pointed out to us before we can change them.
15I've learned to combat the urge to buy things that are on sale, even if I wasn't looking for them. But I'm guilty of buying a little ice cream or drink here and there, and wondering where my money went later.
16i definitely just bought more of one thing because it was on sale. armani exchange outlet - a silk bubble dress that normally is $150; i got for $20. so i bought two - one in purple and one in black.
17I can proudly say I never lose any cash.
18I can totally relate to this post. I have started tracking my spending. I now leave my checkbook, debit cards and large amounts of cash at home. I keep a minimal amount of cash on me.
19This post is so me. It is kinda frightening.
20I guess I'm not "normal", at least when it comes to how much I spend. I definitely put a big chunk of money into savings every month, mostly because I've got an unfounded fear of having no money.
I probably do buy extra on sale, especially at the grocery store...and especially when it's on things that I don't usually see on sale. Luckily, that's usually the case for non-perishables, so I don't waste it.
And with the diet...it does cost more to eat healthier foods, but of course, you can end up with cheaper medical bills and fewer wardrobe changes...but I also noticed I ate healthier at work when I didn't order out...which meant that I saved money and ate more healthily.
21i definitely spend more when I'm on a diet =(
