Definition: Young and Wealthy But Normal

An acronym that comes from the Sunday Telegraph of London, Yawn stands for Young and Wealthy but Normal. CNN describes Yawns as "men and women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who want nothing less than to change the world and save the planet." The profile on various Yawns depicts them as despising waste, excess, and ostentation, and having millions but spend far below their means. They're charitable and generous with their wealth, are eco-socially aware, aren't materially motivated, and are focused on putting their money toward environmentally-conscious and sustainable solutions.

I would love to be a YAWN; however, I am not a YAWN, I probably don't make nearly enough. Seems great if you could make enough money and not really focus on having enough, which means you can give attention to other things.

just another broad buzzword about a group of people who don't really exist.

I would like to know where these people exist as well, because it's like opposites. How can you be eco-social aware and have a ton of money. The only one I know is Bill Gates, and it's not like the world is full of people like him. And BTW, it's sooooo much easier to be charitable when you're filthy rich (no offense, Bill).

Described as those "who want nothing less than to change the world and save the planet."

Umm, isn't that, like, almost everyone? It is certainly the dream of almost every person I know under the age of twelve! (And most of the people I know between the ages of sixteen and seventy.)

I get the young and wealthy portion of the definition, but NORMAL? What does *that* mean?

Does that mean they are just like everyone else, but rich?

Or is it a striking comparison against the young, wealthy and *abnormal* (YAWA)?

What is the prevalent charitable cause of the YAWAs? Save the leprechauns that live in my back yard? Save all purple pants? Save my other personalities? Save your thoughts for someone who cares? Don't save ANYTHING -- throw everything out!

I wonder how they determine a distinction between the young wealthy normals versus the young wealthy abnormals.

duck duck goose, I think what the "N" means is that they live (financially) a normal life. They aren't extravagant with their spending or shopping habits.
