HBO has been on a The Devil Wears Prada kick lately, and while I've seen the entire film more than a few times, I've been catching bits and pieces of it over the past couple weeks with of course some overlapping. It's a fun movie that has me liking Emily's character more than Andy's the more I watch it, and among the exaggerated realities there are some chord-striking points that are admittedly relatable. One of the scenes I caught this weekend was this exchange between Nigel and Andy. Do you relate?
Andy: Sorry, it’s a busy day . . . my personal life is hanging by a thread. That’s all.
Nigel: Join the club. That’s what happens when you start doing well at work. Let me know when your whole life goes up in smoke. That means it’s time for a promotion.

i have yet to have a job that interferes with my personal life. now, my horses...that's a whole other thing
1February-April 15 and August-October 15 are no-personal life zones for me. Unfortunately, I miss the money from all the over time of those dates... so instead of buying clothes online over lunch, I should save that money so I get to have money to do fun things when I'm not required to work insane hours.
2It interferes with regards to the fact that I have to work more than our regular 35 hour week fairly often. Bringing work home isn't too too abnormal and checking your BlackBerry is commonplace when you're out doing things.
3Never really did...
4I totally relate to the movie, one I work with Fashion, second I do freelancer jobs to Brazilian Vogue, third here we have to go to showrooms, stores, everywhere... carry home all the bags full of clothes that we took for the photo shoot, with a messy home, who can have a social and normal life? if we never know what's going to happen next?
5i've pledged to myself that in the next two years, i will not stress myself out for another promotion/new gig anymore. i've lost too much to work. to a lot of people, being in middle-management in the advertising field at 25 is something to be proud of, and i am proud of that. yet, my inability to release stress, health issues and social/relationship sabotages are not worth the pain.
6I have yet to have a job that makes me sacrifice my personal life for work. I do travel a bit for my life but I always find time for my personal life. If I could just find time for me, it would be perfect.
7Mine doesn't but my boyfriend's sometimes does ... he has periods where he's always stressed and has to work super late because of his job. He manages it VERY well, I have to say, because I could never deal with the stress he does, but I do think it changes him into a slightly different, more stressed-out person as he's usually very laid back.
8Nope I don't let it!
9I used to let my personal life suffer because of work, but now I try as hard as I can to keep them separate, and I'm much happier. If I'm very busy at work, it can be hard to find as much time for personal stuff, but I try not to let the bad times affect my mood.
10i refuse to take a job that requires me to sacrifice all of my time. i absolutely need a work/life balance, and i'm not willing to be chained to a blackberry every minute of every day.
11When I love my job, and it's going well, I usually get so upbeat and happy, that my personal life gets better as well!
