Those of you eagerly awaiting your tax rebate checks will rejoice at the Treasury Department's announcement that they're depositing the checks ahead of schedule. Their original announcement stated that May 2 would be rebate check opening day, but they've updated their schedule with the early start date of Monday, April 28.

If the IRS has your direct deposit information then your check will be deposited earlier than those who will receive their check in the mail. However, the mailed checks will also be sent a week ahead of schedule and mailings will begin on May 9. All rebates will be distributed according to the last two digits of your social security number as originally stated. While the IRS hasn't come out with a new schedule, I've updated their old one to reflect the newly announced dates. To see an updated estimated schedule just read more

These estimates have been updated. See the official dates here.

What does this mean for those that owe the IRS? I know I probably wont get anything , but wont they apply it to what I owe them? If so, when will they apply it? Does it go by the mailed check dates?

It's not a good thing..the government takes money from your paycheck illegally every pay period. Unfortunately most citizens of the US don't know this. The IRS and the Federal Reserve are unconstitutional entities that were established by bankers so that they could strip the dollar of it's value in precious metals (gold). When the Federal reserve decided in 1933 to unlink the dollar to the gold reserve, they basically stole our wealth. The dollar is currently plummeting in value and will continue to do so. It's worth nothing more than the paper that it is printed on because the gold that used to back it is no longer there. Do some research before thinking that the government gives a rat's ass about you by giving you $600 or $1200 that they took from you in the first place.

That sucks, when you owe IRS they don't wait, plus they charge interest and penalties, wonder why we can't get those same benefits. I have to wait till JULY, there is not excuse, they should go by when returns were filed, not ss#'s. Oh well, just another way Good Ol' Uncle Same gets to screw the little guy again, and again and again.....the great American Way!

Well actually the timetable posted is incorrect. They will start Direct Deposit on April 28th, then they deposit on Tuesday, Wednesday, then again On Friday. The New Software updates every day allowing them to do it like this instead of weekly.

Unfortunately, the government giveth and things that need to be paid taketh away

I am pretty sure that it is the name that came first on the paperwork. My husband and I filed jointly, and his name was put on their first and i was listed as his spouse. So just look at your paperwork.

What sucks is the pries of things will go up because the govt figures people should be pk to pay for $5.00 /gal. gas prices. Think about it prices are getting ready to up and basically we are giving out money right back to the govt. wow looking forward to it.

OK Folks lets not get too excited here. Think about it ... the IRS giving you a check before they are supposed to?
Sounds a bit far fetched to me. I won't be holding my breath waiting for my direct deposit $600.00

To bad you have to pay this back to the IRS when you file taxes next year! They think their doing us a favor, but in reality their really not. I didn't ask for this, I work hard for my money like every other hard working citizen in american, and we should havent to pay back what we willingly deserve!! $600.00! That doesnt even pay my rent, let alone a months worth of gas, with the prices going up like they are.

I'm going to use the money o pay my Internet bill. Now I'll be able to post witless "yays" through the end of the month!

By the way, has anyone noticed that every retailer in the world is responding to the economic crisis by raising their prices?

    $600.00 doesn't make a place happy.

I'm not excited about this rebate at all, since I won't even see one dime of it! Since we owe $1900 in taxes this year the gov. will keep the rebate check, which sucks big time! Hope everyone else enjoys it. Maybe I'll get one next time around.

I don't know why everyone is having a fit about receiving checks in July, it is money that u know is coming that u didn't have before. Whether I wait one month or two, I am just glad it's coming. Whoever the head of household is will be the ss# they will use.

How does a site called Savvy Sugar release this information before other organizations like the IRS itself, CCH, Smart Pros, etc? I subscribe to all kinds of tax and finance-related online newsletters and have not heard about this. I'm a little skeptical.

just to make it clear. this is a tax rebate. it does not have anything to do with your tax rrfund.next year you will have to put it as an extra income. the IRS is no goint to take back, but it is going to take the taxes of that money.

DO NOT let this check go to your heads people. This check is only to take the focus off the economic slump we are in right now. TOO BAD mine is going to be spent on these high gas prices driving my car.

WAA! WAA! WAA! What a bunch of babies! None of you would be complaining if the government were not sending this stimulus in the first place. So get over yourselves and deal with the arbitrariness that is our government.

Does anybody know for sure how our tax rebate check will come if we filed with H&R and got our original refund on the emerald debit/credit card? I called them and they think it should go on our cards as direct deposit as opposed to a paper check but they are not certain. Anyone know for sure?

seriously quit complaining about it coming in July conanabanana02. In all reality if you would have signed up for direct deposit while filing your 07 tax return then you would be getting yours next week. however, you opted not to direct deposit therefore you brought this upon yourself. Don't blame the IRS this time!!! They do alot of things wrong but, this one they're in the right!!!!

You've got to be kidding , this check is a joke and the only stimulus it will bring is if you buy a personal toy with it !!
The economy is a mess because of one man just like the economy was with his father before him and the sooner his term is up , the better ...... this is what happens when an oil man is voted in .... he's giving out money so we can buy more gas and make more money for the family while he still can ..... would have never thought I would have to pay $100.00 to fill up my little Chevy truck , at least this check will get me three tanks of gas .... sad , so sad ....

Uncle Sam had been asking everyone to do direct deposit (i.e. they will pay you directly into your designated bank account)for many years. If you had done so, you will get you money on the week of May 12, thats one and a half month earlier. Be smart next year!

My husband and I filed together, will it be using his ssn or mine? I agree that it should be based on when you filed, not your ssn. Because someone who filed on April 15 with the last #s being 1-20 will get theres next month, which isn't fair to those of us who filed back at the beginnning of Feburary.
