One of the most exciting pieces of planning your wedding doesn't have to do with the actual wedding itself, but everything to do with the romantic adventure you get to go on after you've said "I do!" After all, talking about your honeymoon is way more fun for you and your fiancé than discussing seating charts. Your honeymoon is generally one time that your employer is likely to be understanding about you taking time off from work. Even if she's had the tendency to interrupt you during previous vacations, she'll probably feel less inclined to while you're sipping mai tais on the beach with your new husband.
Just because your employer expects that you'll take a honeymoon after your wedding, you shouldn't expect she'll be OK with the amount of time off you're planning on taking. When you start planning your honeymoon, let her know that you're thinking about it and would like to make sure the amount of time you'd like to request off is acceptable. Your boss will appreciate your thoughtfulness, and you'll feel reassured that the weeks you'll be away from the office won't cause any rifts that would threaten your job.

1I'm going on a mini-honeymoon for a 4-day weekend at the beach right after the wedding. But the real trip will be to Africa next year for 2 weeks.
2I'll be taking an official 14 day honeymoon in Greece, but then we'll be spending the next week at the Jersey shore and attending a wedding before we go back to real life. I don't feel REMOTELY guilty taking off 3 weeks though (way more time than I am technically allowed) because we'll be living apart for our first 2.5 years of marriage.
3We had a 3 week honeymoon, but I took no time off for it due to timing -- no job to take time off from. My husband, however, checked with his work to make sure it was okay before making the arrangements; he had enough vacation time, but made sure his boss knew he was thinking of taking that much of it at once.
4Ours was 10 days. Enough without being too much time away from work and making money instead of spending it.
5My friend and his wife took a 9 month honeymoon. I can barely negotiate 2 weeks with my lovebug.
69 Months! wow! I took June 5th to June 20th. My boss made a comment to me after I put it on my calendar but I told him I only get one honeymoon and I'm planning on enjoying it dammit. He kind of just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I'm only part time but I've been at that store longer than anyone else, including him. What's he going to do? Most of us just boss him around anyway!
7I'm definitely taking 2 weeks off.
8I'm in academia, so we made things kind of easy and got married over spring break and postponed the honeymoon until after the spring semester was over. This meant I technically didn't have to take any time off, but as far as how long we went away, that was a week.
9We got married three weeks ago and there was no honeymoon for us. Three reasons to that: I was in the middle of my semester in University, we visited about 20 countries in the last year (we traveled for about 5 months total) and we're moving to Europe soon, so we kind of need to keep our money. I'm not that sad about it. It's not like we've never traveled before. We can do something special for our first anniversary instead. We'll be more secure financially and will enjoy it more.
10We are taking two weeks (going to Greece and Turkey--can't wait!). My employer was absolutely fine with the two weeks and probably would have been fine with three, but I didn't think I wanted to be away from work that long (then when you get back there's just more work piled up!!) Now, however, I have decided not even to go back to work, and in fact I am leaving work permanantly three weeks before the wedding!

12We delayed our honeymoon for a couple months then took 5 weeks off to travel through South America. Our week in Los Roques, Venezuela will forever be the best time of my life...amazing!!!!
13Oh and since ppl are commenting on paid time off vs no-pay, we took it during our 6 weeks of paid holiday here in France. We gave ourselves one week back to recover
14Unfortunately, mine was cut short by 9/11 -- military hubby had to get back ASAP. But hey, its an excuse to do the "second honeymoon" up right! =0)
15Two week honeymoon, three weeks off (get to the wedding location couple days early, and wind after the trip for a couple days).

17I took off one week before the big day, and then two weeks after. Through out the year prior I had to take a lot of time off for travel doing pre-wedding stuff (I got married in a different state) but I would always take the little day or two as unpaid time off so that I could save the paid vacation for my honeymoon. I didn't want to come home to 120 hours taken out of my paycheck!
18We eloped, so our honeymoon was really only the weekend. We have been together for 4 years, so we decided to just go ahead and elope. We had to go back to work on Monday, but then the celebrating with others began. We're saving $ so that we can take a great vacation somewhere, though. I wouldn't change a thing.

201 week was long enough. had to go back to work to pay for all the stuff bought on the honeymoon!
21Hmmm we probably won't have a honeymoon immediately following the wedding b/c our date will probably fall in the middle of the semester.
22But when we do take one it'll probably be 1-2 weeks.
I am getting married in august and i took off a week for our honeymoon to the bahamas. I think it gives us enough time to enjoy it, and anything more would be too pricey for me.
23I took off the Thursday and Friday before my Saturday wedding, then waited a month to take the honeymoon. We went over Memorial Day weekend, so we got a 'free' day. Our honeymoon was 5 days total.
24We are planning on taking 10 days. Can't wait!
25We stayed in Las Vegas for 4 days. That was enough time for me, I actually love my job, and working in general. I could never see myself taking off work for more than a week. And wow, a 9 month honeymoon? Are these people made of money or something?
26We took 6 weeks.
27I think 7-10 days is the right amount. Any longer and it would be hard to get motivated to get back to work and catch up.
28We planned our wedding so we could take our honeymoon right after the wedding. It's not the same taking a honeymoon after you've been married a few months. That's then called a vacation. LOL
29I would hope to take a week and a half at the minimum. If I was going to just one place, it would be fine. However, I recently took a 2 week trip to Europe and went several different places. It was really rushed and needed a good 2.5 weeks and a day or so for recovery.
