In a tough job market it's important to really think about the qualifications and characteristics that set you apart from others. Think about what you do best and how comfortable you feel in situations requiring those skills, and work to really perfect that skill-set. Then, consider the skills or qualities you'd like to include with your established selling points and work on those. Should you lose your job, you'll have the edge of confidence and qualifications to land a new position when it comes along. What I want to know is, what are the things that set you apart from competitors and make you appealing to employers?

In my field its all about the portfolio and what you have done in the past. I would showcase my creative thought process through my portfolio and my ability to make a client happy with coming up with the creative answer what they are picturing in their head.
1Well I just had my review the other day and there were ltos fo good things!
I am young (20 almost 21) and they said they couldn't believe how great my work ethic was and how mature I am for my age. Whcih is good! I work hard!They said that I really know how to get things done and I have NEVER missed a deadline.
another good thing is the fact that I am so young! People have an easier time relating to me and talking to me, and I can also be "moulded" into a perfect employee because I haven't had the chance to pick up any bad habits.
2I have a diverse (but consistent) work history that has given me a very broad skillset: I can work as well with people as I can with computers.
3Upbeat, easy-going, a super fast learner, and a lot of knowledge about my field. But eh, that all sounds kinda boring. lol
4I can write AND design.
5When applying for my current job as a graphic designer, I really didn't think I would get it. I live in the same city as a well-known art school, that I did NOT attend, and I knew that there were many other designers with a degree from this school applying for the same job.
But what they liked about me was my experience at my previous job - a trucking company. I didn't have the degree from the best school, but I had experience dealing with customers.
6linb its amazing, but some of most normal experience can be a plus. I thought that having a management job in retail was going to hurt me, but my boss looked at it as someone trusted me beyond a normal employee.
7Agree totally with SkinnyMarie. Management experience is definitely a plus when you want to break out of retail.
8Most employers like the fact that I was once a high school teacher- they know I can handle anything.
9I present my samples of written work. I always tell potential employers, how I can better help them and what I can do for them. I have a diverse work history in terms of different industries but similar titles and work. I am personable, savvy in project management, I have great computer skills, and I am a fast learner.
10I hate this question on interviews. I can't really think of anything that sets me apart. I'm very regular. UGH!
