It seems like every other survey I've come across lately has something to do with the Gen Y / Millennial crowd, and the surveys are acting like microscopes into our preferences and work habits. A recent survey composed by Robert Half says that two-thirds of Gen Y workers prefer in-person communication above phone, email, text message, or other means. Because our generation was introduced to the Internet as kids, the survey's results proved to be surprising for some. Is face-to-face communication your preference?

I prefer email. I think it's because I was in retail for so long that, six months after escaping, I'm still rather sick of people.
1Definitely a mix... and it depends on what the communication is for.
2It definitely depends on the situation. And for that matter, the co-worker.
3I work from home, about a 4 hour drive to the office (if there's not traffic, last time took me 6 hours to get home UGH) so e-mail and phone is the way we go.
4I think it totally depends on my mood. I can communicate more effectively in person, but like Jude C above, I work retail and get really tired of people in general...
5a mix. If I want proof of something happening I email. If not then I just look up and my boss is right there...
6I like email for when I don't want the formalities of hey, 'hows it going, what are your thoughts on this case, this is why I called, is there anything else we needed to talk about, have a nice day.' I like being able to just say, 'this.' And be done.
I much prefer to speak in person, however, to communicate. To instantly have an answer to a question, a conversation so we both know where we are on the case and where things are going...
7I like e-mail if I want a written record of what happened and a chain of events so I remember what the process of things was. In person communication is better if I need something right away and can't wait the 10 minutes (lol, and that's a long wait) for people to e-mail me back.
8I mix email and face-to-face and will only use the phone if I absolutely have to. My boss makes fun of me because I will run downstairs to ask her a question or reply to a voice mail form her rather than just pick up my phone.
9I like a mix, I sometimes prefer e-mail for the evidence and the chain of events.
10I want person to person so there is nothing there to mis interpret its coming from the horses mouth
11i like email for the sake of brevity, but when things are too complicated to type, or i need an immediate answer, face-to-face is good.
12I don't want to do it all over text, email and phone and would like a little bit of person to person. It let's people see how you really are and you get your point across a little better that way.
13I telecommute about half the week, and make the hour and a half long trek up to the office two or three times a week. I’m perfectly comfortable with email, and have had some of my best meetings via IM, but splitting my time between the office and the home office has really made me learn to appreciate face to face time, at least when it comes to collaborative meetings. For basic communication, “here’s the doc you asked for” or whatever, email is generally preferable.
