In Case You Hadn't Noticed, It's April 15th

There's a line out the door across the street from Sugar HQ — no, it's not a pack of people waiting to see the Sugar girls, it's procrastinators at the post office who are waiting to send their tax returns by certified mail! Are you one of those people? Don't freak out, but do make sure your return is postmarked with today's date. And if there's no-way no-how that you'll be able to get your taxes in today's mail, filing for an extension will give you an extra six months to pay the IRS.

You can get a new October 15 deadline by completing a very brief form called Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File. While you have more time to fret about filing your return, an extension won't give you an extension on paying the IRS if you owe taxes. You'll need to pay a close and reasonable estimate of your tax bill by today, along with your extension application.

I think a big thing to remember if you don't owe, you won't get your stimulus payment unless you file by tonight! I heard that on the news today. Well, you'll get it eventually, but not in May/June like the rest of us.

The line is out the door here and my boss yesterday said she needed like 150 stamps for some marketing stuff. So I had 158 at home and made myself some money. BTW the rates are going up on the 22nd (I think?) See, the penny is still used.

I heard a rumor today that the stimulus payment will have an effect on how much you owe (or get back) for your 2008 taxes. As in, we'll all either have to pay it back or it will be taken out of our refunds. I find this very hard to believe. Anyone else heard this rumor?

X-that is just a rumor. The payments will not need to be paid back. You will get the payment provided you meet the qualifications and file on time...

I figured it was, I'm just wondering if anyone else heard it. The worst part is that the first place I heard it was from my boss... who heard it from her tax preparer... *headdesk*
