How to Overcome Buyer's Remorse

That regretful feeling we know as buyer's remorse has a way of getting into the heads of most shoppers I know. And it doesn't seem to distinguish between well-off pocketbooks versus struggling ones — remember in Clueless when Dion asked Cher, "Dude, what's wrong? Are you suffering from buyer's remorse or something?" Cher responds, "God, no! Nothing like that." Because buyer's remorse is, like, a totally serious thing. To find out how to battle buyer's remorse just read more.

There are really only two options to get rid of remorse: either return the item or simply learn to accept your purchase. If you choose the latter, put the item to use immediately because once you've gotten something out of your purchase you'll start feeling less like you want to kick yourself. Whichever direction you choose, make your decision quickly. What's the point in stressing about an article of clothing or a pair of shoes? We have so many other things weighing on us at all times and buyer's remorse should be the last thing giving us premature wrinkles.

A quick Google search of the term generated hundreds of results, but interestingly most were aimed at stores and services with tips on how to prevent buyers from returning goods. All of them were dishing the same advice: provide your customer with reassurance and confirmation that they're making the right choice. One familiar tactic involves a follow-up contact that makes you feel appreciated, and in turn your positive feelings are directed toward your purchase and the provider of your new item.

Do you have any unique tricks for overcoming purchases lacking conviction and filled with regret?

I get this all of the time and I hate it. Even when I go to the grocery store, I always feel like I bought too much!

I try to think really hard before making any purchase more than a few dollars. Even then I'll kick myself for wasting $5 on a tea strainer I don't need (to choose a recent example, hehe.)

Some things still slip through, and if I can't return it I might sell it on Ebay. If it's not worth enough to re-sell I'll try to use it.

I just don't get buyer's remorse. I get shopping highs when I return from shopping--that's the complete opposite of remorse.

I try to prevent that guilty feeling by asking myself if I would regret *not* purchasing the item. More often than not I can say no and forget about it. I certainly regret all those unflattering clothes that are collecting dust in my closet.

I've gone through that sometimes where I'm like "Oh why did I buy this shirt? I don't really have the money for it" and it's like "You bought it. Deal with it. You need clothes. You'll be okay financially." Speaking of...I have a coupon at Payless that expires at the end of this month!! Better go use it!

I usually return things that I'm not happy with quality-wise. If I bought something I thought I would like and get it home and realize I don't like it i try and find someone who would want it before I return it since it's my fault.

Hmm...my shopping high is usually followed by buyer's remorse. Sometimes I return the stuff (because once I get home I manage to find something wrong with it) but most of the time I keep it. I've learned that its only worth spending money on shoes and bags. White blouses shouldn't cost $400 (yes, I did buy one once because it looked amazing, but then I returned it because I couldn't believe what I had just done).

this made me think of that simpsons episode where the stereotypical italian guy buys the last McRibwich on earth from Homer, then exclaims "i have-a the buyer's remorse!"

i rarely experience buyer's remorse... i get a shopper's high, which is dangerous!
