Whether we're totally aware of it or not, we're all pushed to think about our adult lives from a very young age. Forced journal entries and essays in grade school asked us to describe our job aspirations, and watching our parents go somewhere away from home each day made us think about what a job really was. If you were to peek back at those entries or memories, what would they say about what you wanted to do when you grew up?

a teacher...which i've actually been thinking about a lot lately again
1an architect
2It changed all the time. One day I wanted to be a teacher, the next a doctor. The only thing that remained constant was to be a singer, but now I only do that for fun.
3An orthopedic surgeon and a geologist. Ha.
4I wanted to be a teacher and a model - random i know! But i was always tall and skinny so I guess thats where the model part came in...
5LOL, when I was 6 I told my mom I wanted to work at PAYLESS! lol
but when I was in my tweens I wanted to be a cop. I've evolved from makeup artist to now accountant! crazy huh?
6I always wanted to be a marine biologist, all the way up until we had to dissect the fetal pig in advanced bio in high school. No thank you. Now I sort of want to be a lawyer when I "grow up" or maybe a politician, a writer, who knows...
7I wanted to be an actress, an astronaut, and a FBI agent but now I'm going to college to be a Criminal Psychologist.
8I wanted to be a writer. Perhaps when I retire and have more interesting things to write about.
9a Dolphin trainer, or an architect. I'm pretty close with being an interior designer. I also wanted to be She-ra when I was 6
10I wanted to be a vet......but I hated science. Then I wanted to be a lawyer, and I am now in law school!
11A vet & a cop.
12Tee hee...
13For a while when I was young I wanted to be an opera singer!
a poet, novelist or some other type of writer.
14during the summers I wanted to be a teacher (so I could get three months off)
My sister when she was really small would tell people who asked her that she wanted to be on a diet when she grew up. Lol. She heard my mom talking about it, and wanted to be like mom...
15I wanted to be a novelist or an architect.
16
there.
17First an astronaut, and then a mechanical engineer to make underwater trains
. I
studied computer science and graphic design. But I believe my true calling is to be a writer, which is what I'm doing now
.
18I wanted to be an archaeologist.
19A vet.
20Then a mom haha!
An actress. I still sometimes wish to pursue that dream.
21I wanted to be a bus driver- I used to put my dolls on the stairs and I would sit on the bottom step and pretend to stop and drop them off. Then I realized that real kids would be a lot louder and annoying then my stuffed animals!
22So many things - a teacher, chef, a mom, a doctor, a nurse....
Now I'm an accountant.
23syako that is too funny!
24It changed all the time ... teacher (I guess for the summer off), having a flower shop (I dropped the idea as a teenager when I learned that you have to get up very early to buy your flower), interior designer, researcher (I used to had great hopes for a Nobel prize), reporter, novelist, lawyer, business woman, forensic scientist (and CSI wasn't even on our screen) .... I think the only thing I knew that I didn't want to do was doctor or nurse because I was so scared to have to deal with bloody situations.
25In the end, I studied industrial chemistry and now I'm a software developer ... which I like
The ones I remember are president of the United States (really), grade-school teacher, actress/singer, fashion designer, and nurse.
I am now in school for journalism, and I still don't know what I want to do.
26A ballerina. I've taken dance every year since I was 3 but never got to be a professional, so now I teach. It's a lot of fun. But I also wanted to be a teacher. I played school all the time with my sister. So now I'm going to college to be an elementary teacher.
27a wedding planner
28Oh, so many things! A teacher, nurse, hairdresser, inventor, author (still want to do that), CEO
, doctor, epidemiologist
29I was going to be a Virologist until I worked 3 years in a lab. I loved doing the experients and lab write-up. I actually even had my own project, but doing the same experient everyday for years was starting to get boring. I love biology, reading it, and studying; but doing wasn't me.
30The progression went something like this: figure skater, flight attendant, forensic scientist for the FBI, epidemiologist, various medical professions, psychologist, nurse. I'm in classes now to be a Nurse and get my Nurse Practitioner in Adult Acute Care (ICU work)
31I wanted to draw pictures all day and now I am a graphic designer, so I guess it worked out.
32I wanted to be so many things. first an artist, then a writer, then a photographer....but I ended up majoring in psychology.and I love it!
33When I was much younger I wanted to be a veterinarian, then as a teenager I wanted to be an environmental hero, I went to school for it and half-way through I changed my mind and focused more on my biology classes...today I am a Scientist at a Biotechnology Company in Boston and I love discovering things.
34i wanted to be a doctor.
35I wanted to be a ballerina when I was little! Or a gymnast!
In high school, I went back and forth between writer and broadcast journalist.
I went to college to become a rehabilitation counselor, but I ended up becoming a special education teacher! And now, I can't imagine it any other way!
36From age four until I was a freshman in high school I wanted to be a laywer. On occasion I wanted to get into interior design and decorating. Freshman year I really thought about getting into sports broadcasting, but then I realized I do not have the voice for it.
When I
entered college my intention was to continue on to law school and become a sports and entertainment agent. Once in college my ideas switched to my passion which is film. Now I am an office
manager and a Realtor. I have always been a writer and one day I would like to write and direct my own movie. Or write a book.
37A Vet, until I realized that it also meant putting animals down (not just cuddling with them all day...lol)
38When I was in 1st grade, I told my mom I wanted to be a teacher. I don't remember that, but I use to play school until about 7th grade. I also wanted to be a Olympic Fiqure Skater. I took lessons until 7th grade! In 7th grade I wanted to be the next Barbra Walters.. LOL... I wanted to travel and interview famous people. Then in H.S. I had dreams to be an author and pursue journalism. In College, I was miserable my first year in my journalism major.
I had this huge fight with my mom b/c she told me to major in English and be a teacher. I said "no way in h*ll"
Guess what: I minored in English and became a elementary teacher. I guess Moms are right about things. I love teaching. I do still want to write a book one day!
39I went through so many phases... Astronaut, doctor, journalist, vet, chef, spy (?!?), actress, ... Today I'm 25 and I'm still going to University. And I still have no clue what I'm gonna do. I like too many things but I don't have a real passion. Except traveling maybe. Unfortunately professional traveler is not an option.
40Oh wow. Here goes (of what I can remember): writer, librarian, flight attendant, chef, obgyn (All I knew when I was a kid is that you got to help moms and babies.), general doctor, Senator, President, director, producer, actress, comedian, and news anchor are all I can remember. I also wanted to have 20 kids and drive them around in a school bus, so I guess bus driver?
Anyhow, I'm now in politics and am considering law school.
41i just wanted to make it out of the Cave ... you can take the Cave out of the Man but not the Man out of the Cave
42I wanted to be a fashion designer from a very early age, and then by the time I was eleven or twelve I switched to filmmaker and/or interior designer. I haven't really strayed, surprisingly.
43I wanted to be a Vet or an ER Doctor, now I am an apparel developer.
44Just like heineken67, I wanted to be an archaeologist. I changed my mind after seeing some movie, in which an archaeologist found a scorpion in his shoe
Today I'm studying CS, but I'm more and more fascinated by Biology, so I'm leaning towards
Computational Biology.
45But I got to try it out during two summers. It was fun, but not really for me. I also wanted to be a dancer, but then I gained 20 pounds and it took me too long to get rid of them
Hootie - i wanted to be a vet and a cop too!!!
46I wanted to be a doctor. As I got into college though, I realized how much I was just trying to live up to my dad's expectations and not live up to mine. So, I changed majors, pursued an English and MIS degree instead, and now work in a technical environment.
My dream career is to become a librarian. I just need to go back to school and get my Master's.
47The first thing I ever said I wanted to be was a "Stuntman", which my parents corrected as "Stuntwoman" or "Stuntperson".
Oddly, I think I always KNEW I wanted to work in TV. It's like it's seemed CRAZY, like, how would I do it? (I was from a really rural area where everyone's parents were like teachers, factory workers, carpenters, mechanics, farmers). But I honestly don't think a job outside of TV was ever something I considered!
The TV industry is cr-a-a-a-a-zy, but I love it.
48When I was younger I wanted to be either an animator or a cartoonist. I eventually went to school and studied graphic design and now I am a full time designer. Close enough right? lol!
49A writer, which I still want to be. I've got two short stories published now and a finished novel that's gotten good feedback as I try to find representation for it, so I guess I'm on the right track. It's just that when I was little, I thought it would be way easier and faster to get there
